Blind dates are just like any first date; only more frightening. When two people who have never met and know nothing or very little about each other go out for a date, then it is a blind date. This date could be fixed either by common friends or through a dating system. Blind dates are very common these days due to the internet. People meet online, chat and finally decide to meet.
Blind dates are recommended for people who are emotionally stable and are confident of handling any situation. People who are anxious personalities and cannot handle rejection and disappointment should not opt for them. Though many blind dates have ended terribly, there have also been many times when they have resulted in a second date, a friendship, a relationship and even marriage. There are only two options; blind dates can either be a blessing or the last time you speak to or meet the other person.
Here are some tips to help you prepare for blind dates.
1. Get all the information possible about your date:
In most cases, blind dates are fixed either by friends or relatives. Ask for details and information about your date without being very pushy. Get a physical description of that person if possible; this will help you to easily spot your date.
2. Location matters:
It is always best to meet for the first time in a public place. Coffee shops or restaurants are traditional first date places. Keep your first date simple and easy.
3. Avoid going to the movies:
Any first date is a step towards a possible second date. It is best to sit and talk and get to know the other person on a first date. Avoid going for a movie on your first date, as both of you will concentrate on the movie and not on each other.
4. Dress to impress:
Nothing can beat a good first impression. Always dress up well and look like you have put in a great deal of effort to impress your date. Be well groomed and decently dressed for your date. Always remember, appearance matters a lot.
5. Be yourself:
Being yourself is very important on a blind date. You are meeting someone who doesn’t know you, so it is best to give that person a true sense of yourself. Pretending to be something else will create problems on future dates.
6. Keep it short:
Keep your date short and sweet; end the date after 2-3 hrs. It is sufficient amount of time to get to know each other and decide whether a second date will happen. At times, people run out of things to talk and eventually end on a negative note. So, it is best to end things soon and on a positive note.
7. Paying the bill:
On any date, it is the guy who should ideally pay the bill. Be a gentlemen, don’t let your date pay the bill or pay her share.
